It’s been a busy start to the year. It was great to see lots
of families enjoying a beautiful evening at the Family Picnic last night.
Lunchboxes
Your child may have mentioned the discussion we had about
lunchboxes yesterday. We are encouraging them to bring their food in reusable
containers where possible. We noticed that lots of families are already doing
this for some or all of their food. Well done! If this is not practical or
doesn’t suit your family, we are asking them to bring their leftover food and
rubbish home. This reduces the time spent emptying bins and allows you to see
what was eaten or not.
Maths Homework
I have noticed that more children are starting to use
Mathletics for homework. This is a painless (for parents and children) way of
the children doing Maths homework. I hope you all received the sheet giving
ideas for basic fact and times tables practice that was sent home last week.
The Mathletics password was stapled onto this. I will also stick a copy of the
password in their Reading Logs.
Reading Homework
There were a few Reading Logs brought in on Friday. Please
record what your child is reading or better still, get them to write it in
their Reading Log notebooks. Remind them to bring their notebook on a Friday so
that I can also see what they are reading. When they have brought their Reading
Logs 5 times they will get a pencil.
Reading homework is not just a book they have read in class
but can be all sorts of other types of reading. See the suggestions on the back
cover of the Reading Log.
Parent, Child and Teacher Conferences
Just a reminder that these are on Tuesday and Thursday
afternoon. There are no classes on Tuesday afternoon.
Blog
We have finally got the class blog going! Check this from
time to time. Share it with family members. I’m sure your children will let you
know when they have made a post. When we get more posts you can search for your
child’s posts by their name. Feel free to make a comment on a post.
This newsletter will also be posted on the blog. You can search this as Weekly Newsletters.
Communication
Don’t forget to check out the school’s Facebook page for
updates on school events.
We are looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday or Thursday
for conferences.
Kind regards
Judy Coker and Mary Smol
